[Others] [Others] OPT Approved after Prior Rejection 08/27/2020

A college graduate who had been rejected her OPT for failing to meet the required 30-day filing window finally received her OPT card through Song Law Firm. The client submitted her first OPT application by herself without assistance of an expert or immigration attorney. However, the case was rejected because her application was received by USCIS after 30 days of the date the school DSO issued her I-20 for OPT request. In order to get a post-completion OPT, you must timely apply it: (1) within 30 days of your DSO entering the recommendation for OPT in your SEVIS record (60 days for STEM OPT extension); (2) AND no later than 60 days after you complete your degree. Our immigration attorney timely contacted the school DSO immediately following the rejection and was able to have the DSO re-enter the OPT recommendation with a new date. The case was approved.
